Manic Monday- KB Shimmer Don’t Pink Twice

Here we are again! Only a few weeks left in summer so I thought I would bring you one of my new favorite summer neons, Don’t Pink Twice by KBShimmer! This neon dries to a matte finish, but you can gloss it up with topcoat if you so desire

It’s difficult to see in the first pictures but I ATTEMPTED to do a matte/shiny french manicure by using topcoat on the tips. It was subtle IRL too…but just really didnt show up well in pictures. Also if you look closely at the bottle, especially in the first and last pictures, you will see there is an ever-so-slight blue shimmer

Whats your favorite neon? Whats your favorite KB Shimmer??.

Subscription Box Sunday: New Review–Rainbow Honey Mini Subscription July 2014

I was first introduced to the Rainbow Honey brand, ironically, in my first Wantable makeup subscription box. Rainbow Honey is known particularly for glitter-packed polishes and scented topcoats.

Rainbow Honey offers their subscription in both fullsized and mini. I currently subscribe to the mini–mostly for space-saving reasons! Each month comes with 2-3 polishes and several other beauty & nailcare goodies. If you want to test it out with out committing to a subscription you can also purchase prior months individually.

Each package comes with a fun insert describing all the products! July I received 3 mini polishes, perfume, cuticle balm, and aloe cooling gel.

Also in the package was a coupon to celebrate the release of their summer collection!DSCN7282

L-R: Deep heart sea, Viridis, Chemical Plant.

L-R: Cuticle balm, perfume, and cooling gel.

Each month the scents are usually on a theme–July everything was midori scented–a summery fruity melon scent that makes me crave a midori sour.

You can visit their website here to purchase your own! Fullsized is $25 and mini is $10. You can also currently purchase individual packages of July and August while supplies last.

Happy shopping!!

Tutorial Tuesdays: Floral wedding nails!

Welcome to tutorials on Tuesdays! I didnt make up this tutorial…it was one of the gems I found on Reddit (original post by u/Thradien)and when I decided to wear this dress to my friend’s wedding in April, I knew it would be perfect!

The tutorial image:

Looks complicated, words seem easy. Let’s see how this pans out.

Here is the bottom of the dress I wore! (from New York & Company). The top didnt have anything different or any more flowers or anything so it was easier to just take this picture to show the details.

So there was the added complication of the crosshatching pattern background–accomplished using striping tape,

Finished product! Pre cleanup. I was too excited to wait! I was so pleas how these turned out and it was a lot easier than I expected!

Everyone thought they were decals, despite some of them being on the rather nubby side lengthwise. I used a small nail art brush pretty much as pictured in the tutorial.

If you try it too, let me know!

Mani-c Mondays: Carpe Noctem really is a big deal…

Eventually I will admi I have a problem and just change these posts to Indie Polish Mondays…or even Carpe Noctem Mondays. If you haven’t noticed I have been using a lot more indies lately. They are better and the people are nicer 🙂 Plus, as displayed by the color featured below, you can use expletives in the names ! Here is ‘I’m a Big Fucking Deal’.

This was originally a custom color but became one of CNC’s most popular shades*. (*welcome to the confessionals where facts are made up and statistics don’t matter!). It is a beautiful holographic magenta pink shade. Below is two coats. The pictures with a darker background are with flash to show off the SHINY !!

*also did you check out my sweet new watermarking?kthxbai.

Mani-c Mondays: Carpe Noctem’s Moss Agate

Hello again! Apparently manicures are the only posts I can make with any sort of regularity. Today I bring you some swatchy swatches of Moss Agate, by Carpe Noctem Cosmetics. You may have noticed that this is one of my favorite indie polish brands so far. Beautiful colors, lasting formula, great communication….but hey. The polish speaks for itself, amirite?

Another winner from Carpe Noctem. I must have at least 10 of her colors now. Go buy some! Store linked in beginning of the post. Also one of my faves–the 90s (matte neon glitter) is on clearance so act fast!!

Mani-c Monday: Digital Nails Outlander duo

This is the part where I make excuses about not posting. My life’s been shit and a whirlwind, but KRISTIN THIS IS FOR YOU (shes been pestering me to start posting again).

This week’s manicure is brought to you by my first purchase from Digital Nails. When they announced that they would be doing polishes based on the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon (and soon to be Starz TV series!!) I could not resist. The books are absolutely compelling, a story of a modern ’40’s woman thrust back in time 200 years. These two polishes are based on the main character, Claire, and her primary love interest, Jamie.

Image

Sassenach is for Claire and Highlander for Jamie. While Sassenach is normally a derogatory Scot term for an Englishman, it becomes a term of endearment between Claire and Jamie. You know, like when you call your best friends bitches. “Yo bitch, let’s grab coffee!”

I posted the manicure with Highlander so you could get lots of angles of the holo-y goodness!

With Flash. Flash really brings out the red flecks in Sassenach.

LOOK AT IT. It’s all i can do not to  use this polish all day erry day. i will for SURE break it out when the Starz show premiers! Seriously, google that shit. The actor playing Jamie is SMOKIN’. accent. kilt. muscles. eyes you can drown in. ya feel me?

Back to the nails–like I said, these were the first polishes from Digital Nails I ever bought. the formula was smooth, easy to apply, and above average staying power. I’ve already got about a dozen more of her polishes on my wish list.

You can buy her polishes on her Etsy shop here. She doesnt even know I’m writing about her polish; this post is completely my money spend and my own experience.

Enjoy! and watch the Outlander trailer!

Mani-c Monday: Carpe Noctem The 90’s

Hullo readers! Today I am going to show you one of my FAVE glitter toppers! This is Carpe Noctem’s The 90s, one of many of my Carpe Noctem polishes. It is probably my favorite indie brand so far–not that I have that many YET but I am slowly but surely starting to venture out. However, Carpe Noctem was one of my first and will thus always hold a special place in my heart. That, and the fact that these polishes have super smooth application and last forever and are available in multiple sizes.

The 90s is a matte neon glitter–with big neon hexes. You don’t have to go fishing for the hexes either. I wore it in the following pictures over Color Club-Harp On It. I was so excited about how this manicure turned out that I didn’t wait for daylight OR for cleaning up the lines. This should not be news to you where I am concerned 😛

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Those last couple pictures with flash really show off the holographic quality of the Color Club. This manicure is everything I love–glitter, neon colors, bright sparkly goodness!

Mani-c Mondays: Color Club Glitter Gradient

The great thing about the KISS glitter gradient kit I received from Influenster is that it effectively taught me how to create a glitter gradient using existing colors in my collection! Here is a silver-to-blue gradient I created using 3 shades from Color Club.

ImageImage

The glitter I chose was Savoy Nights, which is silver suspended in translucent blue. SO I did a silver base, and did a foil blue tip, and then silver on half nail. ta-da! easy peasy!

What are your favorite polishes for gradients?

Lucky 13 Lacquer: Teal Me I’m Pretty & Don’t Cry Over Spilled Glitter

Hello again! I know it is twice in a day but I neeeeed to tell you all about this. I recently was given a few indie polishes as part of a gift exchange on Reddit. Until then, I only had 3–a Rainbow Honey, a KB Shimmer, and a 27 Polish that I got for having a runner up name in a naming contest for the shade. However there are many other indie brands making names for themselves in the lacquerista world and now I have been able to experience a few more.

Today I am going to highlight for you the two shades I received of the brand Lucky 13 Lacquer. Bear with me, I took a lot of pictures!

1: Teal Me I’m Pretty is a teal (duh) polish with rainbow glitters. It was actually relatively simple to get lots of glitter spread out, and a lot of chunky glitters like this are finicky and difficult to work with. I found this polish easy! This was several coats, you can see in some of the closeups that the bottom glitters are peeking through.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

2: Don’t Cry over Spilled Glitter is a white base with all manner of glitter as well. This was 3 coats to get it close to opacity. Again, smooth application and simple to get lots of glitter without having to go fishing. Also you may have noticed but I have given up the patience for cleanup. F that noise.

What are your favorite indie brands? Recommendations? Have you tried Lucky13?
