Manic Monday- KB Shimmer Don’t Pink Twice

Here we are again! Only a few weeks left in summer so I thought I would bring you one of my new favorite summer neons, Don’t Pink Twice by KBShimmer! This neon dries to a matte finish, but you can gloss it up with topcoat if you so desire

DSCN7272 DSCN7273 DSCN7274 DSCN7276

It’s difficult to see in the first pictures but I ATTEMPTED to do a matte/shiny french manicure by using topcoat on the tips. It was subtle IRL too…but just really didnt show up well in pictures. Also if you look closely at the bottle, especially in the first and last pictures, you will see there is an ever-so-slight blue shimmer

Whats your favorite neon? Whats your favorite KB Shimmer??.

Manic Monday: Summer French Leopard

Good evening readership! I was actually just discussing one of these polishes today so I decided this manicure would be today’s subject! I used a 4 polish combination of both indie and mainstream to create this dazzling (and freshly scented!) masterpiece!

I really love using leopard print in my manicures. It always looks fancy and complicate but is actually very simple to execute with a dotting tool.

What are your faves from these brands? Any other cool leopard idea to try?

Tutorial Tuesdays: Floral wedding nails!

Welcome to tutorials on Tuesdays! I didnt make up this tutorial…it was one of the gems I found on Reddit (original post by u/Thradien)and when I decided to wear this dress to my friend’s wedding in April, I knew it would be perfect!

The tutorial image:

Looks complicated, words seem easy. Let’s see how this pans out.

Here is the bottom of the dress I wore! (from New York & Company). The top didnt have anything different or any more flowers or anything so it was easier to just take this picture to show the details.

So there was the added complication of the crosshatching pattern background–accomplished using striping tape,

Finished product! Pre cleanup. I was too excited to wait! I was so pleas how these turned out and it was a lot easier than I expected!

Everyone thought they were decals, despite some of them being on the rather nubby side lengthwise. I used a small nail art brush pretty much as pictured in the tutorial.

If you try it too, let me know!

Mani-c Mondays: Carpe Noctem really is a big deal…

Eventually I will admi I have a problem and just change these posts to Indie Polish Mondays…or even Carpe Noctem Mondays. If you haven’t noticed I have been using a lot more indies lately. They are better and the people are nicer 🙂 Plus, as displayed by the color featured below, you can use expletives in the names ! Here is ‘I’m a Big Fucking Deal’.

This was originally a custom color but became one of CNC’s most popular shades*. (*welcome to the confessionals where facts are made up and statistics don’t matter!). It is a beautiful holographic magenta pink shade. Below is two coats. The pictures with a darker background are with flash to show off the SHINY !!

I mean SERIOUSLY how many of you clicked that link above and IMMEDIATELY bought this polish??

*also did you check out my sweet new watermarking?kthxbai.

Mani-c Mondays: Nude & Neon featuring Carpe Noctem, OPI, & Urban Outfitters

Two in a row, I’m on a roll. Today’s manicure is a fun summer update on a french tip featuring one of my favorite new neutrals and a couple of fun neons perfect for a heat wave! I am talking of course about Carpe Noctem Cosmetic’s Taupey Tips, a perfect neutral with a slight holo shimmer. The tips were created with OPI’s Where Did Suzi’s Man-go? and Urban Outfitter’s Wavvvy. That’s not a typo, the label really does have 3 v’s on it.

DSCN6924 DSCN6925 DSCN6928

I used two layers of each polish. The pictures above are after 4-5 days and only the thumbnail is really showing wear, and surprisingly its the OPI that is chipping! It really goes to show you that indie can sometimes be not only safer, but higher quality and longer lasting than popular mainstream brands. I am always impressed with Carpe Noctem’s lasting power, and this is my first time using a polish from UO.

Show me your favorite nude and neon’s!

Mani-c Monday: Digital Nails Outlander duo

This is the part where I make excuses about not posting. My life’s been shit and a whirlwind, but KRISTIN THIS IS FOR YOU (shes been pestering me to start posting again).

This week’s manicure is brought to you by my first purchase from Digital Nails. When they announced that they would be doing polishes based on the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon (and soon to be Starz TV series!!) I could not resist. The books are absolutely compelling, a story of a modern ’40’s woman thrust back in time 200 years. These two polishes are based on the main character, Claire, and her primary love interest, Jamie.

Image

Sassenach is for Claire and Highlander for Jamie. While Sassenach is normally a derogatory Scot term for an Englishman, it becomes a term of endearment between Claire and Jamie. You know, like when you call your best friends bitches. “Yo bitch, let’s grab coffee!”

Image

I posted the manicure with Highlander so you could get lots of angles of the holo-y goodness!

With Flash. Flash really brings out the red flecks in Sassenach.

LOOK AT IT. It’s all i can do not to  use this polish all day erry day. i will for SURE break it out when the Starz show premiers! Seriously, google that shit. The actor playing Jamie is SMOKIN’. accent. kilt. muscles. eyes you can drown in. ya feel me?

Back to the nails–like I said, these were the first polishes from Digital Nails I ever bought. the formula was smooth, easy to apply, and above average staying power. I’ve already got about a dozen more of her polishes on my wish list.

You can buy her polishes on her Etsy shop here. She doesnt even know I’m writing about her polish; this post is completely my money spend and my own experience.

Enjoy! and watch the Outlander trailer!

Mani-c Mondays: Color Club Glitter Gradient

The great thing about the KISS glitter gradient kit I received from Influenster is that it effectively taught me how to create a glitter gradient using existing colors in my collection! Here is a silver-to-blue gradient I created using 3 shades from Color Club.

ImageImage

The glitter I chose was Savoy Nights, which is silver suspended in translucent blue. SO I did a silver base, and did a foil blue tip, and then silver on half nail. ta-da! easy peasy!

What are your favorite polishes for gradients?

New Nail Review–Two Gypsies nail lacquer: Birthday Wish Upon A Star

With the holidays upon us, you may have noticed that my posts have come slow as molasses. If you even care 😛 But I had to make sure I got this post up for you, and so I could properly express thanks.

From the online Reddit community I have watched the launch of Two Gypsies Nail Lacquer a few months ago. I haven’t bought any yet but the colors are on my Etsy wishlist and I find them quite pretty. I follow them on Facebook and read reviews from other bloggers.

A few weeks ago, they came up with a new polish and asked for name suggestions–and I won! The prize was my chosen name on the bottle, and a bottle for my collection! Unbeknownst to them, this would get them a free blog review 😀

Image

I should say I really like their labels. The logo is too cute!

Image

Closeup of the polish! The glitter did distribute better once the bottle was room temperature–instead of cold from being in a box on my porch.

Image

They asked for something to do with birthdays, and the polish has stars. so i came up with this–Birthday Wish Upon a Star!

Image

Closeup of the star, square, and circle glitter. micro-glitter-shimmer is also present.

Image

Initial swatching! left is one coat, right is two coats.

Image

Other side, where you can see some glitter better.

Image

This angle shows off the shimmer a bit.

Image

Swatch and bottle.

Image

I was taking advantage of the short amount of after-work daylight I have to take lots of photos!

Image

Super sweet note from the Gypsies 🙂

Image

Finally my last manicure chipped and I got to try it out! This is 3 coats. 2 coats was pretty opaque but i just couldnt help myself!

Image

The middle finger got a star right in the middle! But you can clearly see the glitter distribution is much better.

Image

Other hand! This hand ended up with lots of squares.

Image

Another left angle. Its not perfectly clear but it shows off the different colors reflecting from the glitter and shimmer.

Image

Back to the right, different angle.

This is the second time in my life I have gotten to name a polish for an indie seller! Okay well the first time I got an honorable mention but still. SO COOL! Big shout out and thank you to the girls at Two Gypsies! Make sure to check out their shop and Facebook because they might have special offers or events–recently they had a couple charity polishes (now sold out, or I would link!) and donated a portion of proceeds.

What are your favorite indie polish brands? Have you tried Two Gypsies yet?

Nail Art Catchup

Good evening readers! I’ve been posting a lot of box reviews lately, so here are some manicures to catch you up on what my nails have been sporting over the last few weeks…months? It might be months now. I’m probably the world’s worst beauty blogger 🙂

Image

This was my birthday manicure! I used two Zoyas–Zoya Sailor from the fall cashmere line, and Zoya Sunshine, their similarly colored fall Pixiedust. On the middle finger is Happy Birthday by Deborah Lippman.
I love the ease of application and full coverage of Zoya polish. These pictures do not do it justice!

Image

Here we have some stripe tape art, featuring butter London British Racing Green over Color Club Silver Lake. The “accent nails” are where I screwed up the taping >.< I dressed them up with Zoya Opal flake effect topcoat. I had been coveting this color green for a very very long time and finally snagged it for $10 during Ulta’s promotion in September.

Image

I tried out two more of the Zoya fall cashmere line–Louise (brown) and Pepper (red). These colors are scrumptious. I won the full cashmere set at the end of september at a fundraiser and i couldnt be more thrilled.

Image

Another new butter London–Scuppered. Incredibly hard to photograph. This polish is actually comprised of gold, green and red glitters and has amazingly full coverage.

Image

You got a sneak peek of this one in last week’s Birchbox reviews! This is Zoya Flynn, of the cashmeres, and Ruffian’s Hedge Fund, from Birchbox. This was also my first attempt at interlocking dots…BE GENTLE.

Image

Getting closer…HOMECOMING! This was from a few weekends ago. I went back to good old MoCo to march with the alumni band and did an accompanying mani. I honestly can’t remember what the blue and grey were that I used. The glitter was from the Sephora OPI Cinderella set.

Image

This mani is….action packed. I know I used Sonia Kashuk Fatigued and Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in Candy Corn. with striping tape. and rhinestones. Honestly I STILL can’t decide if i liked it or not.

Believe it or not, I have even MORE manicures to show you since I last uploaded pictures, as well as some very special manicures I created for charity. But more on that another time!

Do you all love Zoya and butter london as much as I do? What do you think about my quilted bedazzled manicure? Hit me up!
