Confessed shopaholic. If you have ever read any of my previous posts, you know this is me. Here’s a glimpse of some of the things I have bought this month. Only SOME.
Also, let me just take a moment to RAVE RAVE RAVE about Hautelook’s customer service! As I mentioned, this was just half of my pixi & pop beauty order. There were 2 more items that were supposed to ship separately. When I got the 2nd package, it had completely wrong items! I emailed them right away, and got a response that it might be a few days before I heard because they were really swamped, so I opted to IM them. Not only do I not have to return the items BUT they did a complete refund of the 2 missing items AND the shipping! It went through immediately and I could not be happier!
To keep things clean and not clutter up your emails/feeds, I decided to compile the July boxes I got BEFORE my vacation into one post 🙂 I have to clear out the picture folder waiting to be posted before I upload all the mail that was waiting for me when I got home!
Splendies is a monthly underwear subscription box. The first month is currently on sale for $8, and then it increases to $12/month for subsequent months. This was my first Splendies box. I was very pleased with the discreet packaging.
I was a bit disappointed that it was just 3 pairs of underpants wrapped in tissue paper–I saw on another blog review (to which they link on their website) that each panty arrived in its own drawstring cloth bag! Obviously known bloggers are treated better?
However, I loved the products!
Seriously, how fun are these panties?! I love the bright colors and just the right amount of quirk. The materials are super soft and the lace doesn’t feel like it will be itchy on my ladyparts.
One other thing to note, however, is that there is no ‘customer account’ system on their website. You can’t log in and check or change your size selection, subscription, or shipments. There is no referral link, either. I don’t think I will stick with it for those reasons…plus 3 pairs of panties a month will add up super fast!
#2: Julep Summer Mystery big box version
As you may know, I have Julep Maven subscription, and I couldn’t resist this big mystery box! I should have, but I didn’t. If you don’t have a Julep sub, you can sign up here. They had different versions of the boxes and about 25% of people who bought the big box got like 15 polishes and 3 beauty items–I got 5 polishes, a scrub sample packet, and a makeup brush 😦 Color me disappointed. I may be a whiner but I don’t understand how it is fair or LEGAL for me to pay the same amount as someone else and they get 3x as much product as I do. LAME.
I don’t think I will be buying a mystery box again. I will stick to known entities, like my monthly box and their sale bucket.
#3 July BirchBox
You can get your monthly subscription to Birchbox here.
Overall I was satisified. I haven’t tried everything yet, but the eye cream goes on smoothly and isnt too thick or fragrant. The bobby pins work well even on my heavy, thick hair, so thats a good sign as well.
#4 July Ipsy
Subscribe for your own Ipsy bag here. Then invite all your friends to join so you get extra goodies in your bag!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND that’s all folks. Actually it isnt, but I have a couple food boxes and I am going to do them all together.
Did you get any of these boxes? Did I inspire any of you to join any of these services? Tell me what you think!
Hey readers! Sorry I didn’t give you a heads-up but I was on VACAY!!! Every summer (mostly) my family (in some assortment) goes to Chincoteague Island Virginia for vacation and last week was the week! Needless to say I am behind on posts (again!) and came home to a ginormous stack of mail (and packages). Here’s a taste of the island for ya!
Most people squint at me and try and figure out what I’m trying to say when I say ‘Chincoteague’. We rent a house, eat lots of seafood, go to the beach…and this year, there were 3 teenage girls in the house, so I took face masks and mani supplies and we had a BLAST.
Now, prepare for an onslaught of posts. I usually try not to post more than once in a day because I think people will perceive me as obnoxious if I do (even though I probably am anyways). However I just have too much in the way of goodies to share! Stay tuned!
If any of you readers are denizens of my subreddit, RAoM, you know that we did a Christmas in July gift exchange! The gifts had to be mailed by July 15th, and we didn’t know who our secret santas were. My gift arrived yesterday and i was absolutely flabbergasted! My Santa went ALL OUT and I was so impressed.
For perspective on how much mail I have been receiving in general…this was on my doorstep yesterday.
The bottom package is my christmas gift! here’s a shot of the packaging for ya–check out all the stamps!
In case you cant read that, it says that it’s 12 days of christmas, and i have to open the gifts in ORDER. HOLY CRAP I LOVE THEMED PRESENTS. My excitement was building, and it was probably more exciting than real christmas.
Upon unwrapping, I found my 12 gifts, as well as an extra gifty for my kitten, Kipper, and a hilarious little Santa figure!
GIfts 1-3: Misscha BB cream, orange soap, and a VW magnet! My Santa stalked my Reddit history and this very blog to figure out good gift ideas for me. So she knew i had been dying to try Korean BB creams and that I just bought a new Volkswagen in April. The orange soap represents the traditional oranges given on Christmas in Germany.
Gifts 4-6: A new toner to try, glitter powder, and my very first Illamasqua product! its a practically fluorescent pink gloss and I love it. Again, my obsession with neon and sparkles is public enough for her to find it.
Gifts 7-9: Another present for Kipper! With an adorable poem. He loves it! Also a fabulous mascara and balm stain, both brands I never heard of but that I have since tested and ADORED.
Gift 11 (relax, i know i skipped 10!): PALETTE! The colors are great, there are pop up pictures around the mirror, and 2 cream eyeliners. OH, and a parachuting pirate ninja. with a cupcake. HELLO, FABULOUS.
Gifts 10,12, and the note: These 3 things were the most impressive, though only by a hair because the entire presentation was completely remarkable and awe-inspiring. The necklace is adorable, and HOW DID SHE KNOW MY VACATION STARTS MONDAY?! I don’t have anything like this travel bag and I really needed one. It’s absolutely perfect and just the right amount of quirky.
Isn’t that just fabulous?? I was so excited I couldn’t wait and this morning I was already diving into the products:
I know the bottom left picture looks washed out, but that’s because I didn’t wait for the BB cream to fully adjust to my skintone. As you can see in later pictures, it ended up matching quite well! Also, my shadow looks chalky in the picture, but that is because sparkle doesn’t photograph well. The only products I used of my own that I did not receive were moisturizer, eye primer, blush, and bronzer. All in all, I think I looked fabulous!
The next gift exchange is at Halloween and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT. This was such a blast and I had such a wonderful Santa.
Do any of you have experience with any of these brands? Most of them are unknown to me!
If you read one of my mail posts, you will know that I got these Sally Hansen nail strips in my $5 Target beauty box. I got around to trying them out not that long ago….hoo boy.
The website touts “instant salon effects.” I hate to break it to you, Ms. Hansen, but these took WAY longer to figure out than my manis take to dry! Not to mention trying to match up the strips to my fingernails…stretching the plaid pattern evenly….not ripping it….
It also states it lasts 10 days and is easy to remove with regular nail polish remover. BOTH FALSE. The edges were lifting within a day–and I even had wrapped the edges with topcoat to try and extend the lifetime. So, I decided to remove them and move on. WORSE THAN GLITTER POLISH. basically the color came off and I was left with remnants of the silver foil base.
Hell…at least they LOOKED cool for a day.
Also…the line running across the nails mid-nail? That wasn’t user error. That is actually just how the strips looked–you can see where they were stamped and that’s where the ends line up. You can also see where the stretching was difficult to do evenly and i got tears (nail polish stretch-marks, haha) on a couple. behind the stretching is the silver color of the foil base. Luckily this particular pattern was pretty busy and observers didn’t seem to notice the flaws until I pointed them out.
All in all, this product did NOT live up to its promises nor my expectations. I will not be buying these again!
Because in Philadelphia, everything with a ffff sound is spelled PH.
My friend Danielle is an Arbonne representative, and she attended my Princess party. We went to college together, and she’s hilarious and I love getting together with her. She hauled a whole bunch of her Arbonne arsenal with her to my Princess party completely without intent or expectation to sell, just to make us pretty! This is why I love her and will be posting much more about her. If you want to know more about Danielle, here is her Facebook page
Like I said, I am a horrible friend and even worse blogger, so I have no idea what she used. However my entire face is Arbonne products top to bottom. Bonus: My best friend got an Arbonne makeover too, and wanted to be on my blog! You saw her nails in my Princess party manicure post, here is her adorable tiiiiiny face to go with it!
Ain’t she cute?
And, because Danielle is so awesome she left me with all these samples! Expect reviews and looks soon!
She sent a bunch of samples home with BFF too–she basically opened the sample pack and gave the pale half to her and the tan half to me 🙂 I can’t wait to dive in–I have to be honest, I already did, but I can’t find the pictures and I wasn’t keen on the shade anyway so too bad for you.
FUN FACT: Arbonne does snacks, too?
As you can see if you can read my scribbly handwriting, this is an Arbonne Fit Chew in mango pineapple flavor. It was delicious. They basically are yummy little chewy candies–slightly more caramel in consistency than gummy. They have a wonderful fruity flavor and are designed to give you a satisfying little taste to tide you over until a meal so you arent reaching for that candy bar in your desk. A+ for branching out, Arbonne!
And with that, the Princess party posts have drawn to a conclusion. It only took 3 weeks….my bad. However now that I have nearly caught up to my lazy lifestyle AND it’s the weekend, I might be able to show you some really awesome things the next few days! Expect faces, polishes, reviews, and more! Stay tuned!
Hello beautiful readers! I’m a bit late to the game but I haven’t yet posted my review and pictures from the Mary Kay VoxBox I received from Influenster! I got 5 full-sized products to test out. The Mary Kay brand is one that is known to me to be very reliable and have quality (if a bit pricey) products, so when I found out I had qualified and would be receiving the below cosmetics, I was very excited!
Included were Lash Primer, Lash Love Lengthening Mascara (which is new according to that catalog), Cream Eye Color in Violet Storm, Cream Eye Color/Concealer brush, & True Dimensions lip stick in Pink Cherie.
I will tell you right now that I don’t have pictures or swatches of the lash primer or mascara. I don’t understand the primer’s purpose–I didn’t notice a huge difference. But this could be because I already have long-ish and thick lashes and don’t particularly need a large amount of lash products–if I forget mascara sometimes, no one notices.
HOWEVER I will say that if you love Clump Crusher, it’s very similar. The brush is identical, the application is identical, the only difference is the brand/price tag.
The top swatch is the eyeshadow. I love it! It’s very smooth and has only a slight purple tint–a more accurate title would have been LAVENDER storm 🙂 With my normal primer it lasted all day and didn’t crease, and blends very well with my other shadows. Unfortunately due to my sub box obsession the $22 price tag is beyond my budget.
The bottom swatch is the lipstick. I LOVE THIS. You can see it actually on my lips in one of the pictures from my last post (paired with a lip liner from my Ipsy bag). It goes on butter smooth and blends nicely with my natural lip color. The container itself is innovative–I haven’t seen a similar tube from any other brand.
As for the brush, it is very nice. I didn’t have anything of similar size/shape in my current brush collection so it was a welcome addition. It seems sturdy and didn’t lose any bristles when washed.
OVerall, the total value of this box was $80.00, so how could I be anything but pleased? To be 100% straight with y’all, one of the best parts was this page in the catalog that actually shows different looks to try! I just substituted the items I didn’t have (most of them) with approximate items from my collection!
Thanks and shout out to Influenster for the opportunity to test out these great beauty products from Mary Kay! Also it’s really important to note that “I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.” Which you already knew, if you knew anything about Influenster and its VoxBoxes.
Thanks for stopping by!
Would you believe I am *still* behind from that one week I was unable to post? Yes. And I have 10 faces that you all were denied, incredibly. Rather than bombard you with 10 face posts in which I describe how I forgot which products I used and am unable to recall how well they lasted–I used my favorite Google Picasa feature and made collages!! For funsies, you can guess what I used. I don’t rightly know myself, so chances are you might even know better than myself!
So what do you think? TIps, advice, guesses on mystery products? Compliments encouraged 🙂 I dare you to feed this ego 😛
You’ve missed quite a few manicures, ladies! (I guess & gents…I don’t know if any of my male followers are particularly interested…) Let’s play the catch-up game!

My journey - The good, bad and the ugly
Hi. My name is Crystal and I'm a shopaholic.
