October Starlooks Starbox

I am so far behind in box posts it isn’t even funny. Here is my Starlooks box from October. Starlooks has been popping up all over the place in other boxes too–Ipsy, Wantables, to name a few–and so far I have liked all the products.

Image

I always love how professional and classy their packaging is.

Image

The breakdown: lipstick, eyeliner, and 3 blushes.

Image

You can gift a subscription too–the December box has already been revealed to include a full eyeshadow palette!

Image

Cutepackagingception. Cute boxes within a cute box.

Image

Everything opened!

Image

The blush palette and eyeliner swatched! The middle blush is more summery on my skin but the other two will be great now! and The silver will be a nice touch of glam for holiday parties.

Image

The lipstick swatch. It goes on very smooth and is a sheer pink tint.

The crystal was tucked in the box underneath the tissue paper!

Do you subscribe to Starbox? How about now? 😛

Lucky 13 Lacquer: Teal Me I’m Pretty & Don’t Cry Over Spilled Glitter

Hello again! I know it is twice in a day but I neeeeed to tell you all about this. I recently was given a few indie polishes as part of a gift exchange on Reddit. Until then, I only had 3–a Rainbow Honey, a KB Shimmer, and a 27 Polish that I got for having a runner up name in a naming contest for the shade. However there are many other indie brands making names for themselves in the lacquerista world and now I have been able to experience a few more.

Today I am going to highlight for you the two shades I received of the brand Lucky 13 Lacquer. Bear with me, I took a lot of pictures!

1: Teal Me I’m Pretty is a teal (duh) polish with rainbow glitters. It was actually relatively simple to get lots of glitter spread out, and a lot of chunky glitters like this are finicky and difficult to work with. I found this polish easy! This was several coats, you can see in some of the closeups that the bottom glitters are peeking through.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

2: Don’t Cry over Spilled Glitter is a white base with all manner of glitter as well. This was 3 coats to get it close to opacity. Again, smooth application and simple to get lots of glitter without having to go fishing. Also you may have noticed but I have given up the patience for cleanup. F that noise.

What are your favorite indie brands? Recommendations? Have you tried Lucky13?

let’s talk about in store makeovers

Greetings all! Ladies, you know what I’m talking about. You are shopping around at Ulta or Sephora most likely, and inevitably some salesperson or another wrangles you into trying their products right there in the store. You have to remove any makeup you are already wearing (sometimes copious amount) and cross your fingers and pray to whatever gods are yours that they know what they are doing.

I have gotten a little brave with this. I had a really good experience a few months ago in Ulta with the Napoleon Perdis salesperson (do a quick search on my NP posts and you will find the makeover and all the NP love I’ve found since!) so I don’t tend to turn these down.

My first mistake was letting someone approach me in The Body Shop. Yes their lipliner is silky smooth and their BB cream is divine, but let’s face it: what they really know is bathtime. Shower gels, skincare, lotions, scrubs, soaks. No one’s first thought is “mascara!” Secondly, the person was nowhere near my age, nor did we have anything in common skinwise.

I could go on but I will let pictures speak for themselves.

Image

My eyeshadow got extended at least half an inch past the end of my eyebrows. It’s hard to tell that, though, because she didnt fill them and my ends are a little thin. Also, she put mascara on TOP of my lashes? that was a wierd sensation, to say the least.

Image

I feel as if I look tired and dirty.

Image

same problem as the other eye. I’m pretty sure the mascara on top application made my lashes straighter >.< also…blush. look at it all.

Image

seriously look at my lashes. If you are at all familiar with my blog and thereby my face, you know i have long, thick lashes and she somehow succeeded in making them look stringy and sparse.

Image

OK I DO like this color. SHe mixed 2 lipsticks to get this great fall orange/brown shade. but she didnt line, and she didnt prep them with balm or anything first.

Image

These are the colors she used–The Body Shop numbers colors instead of naming them. I bought them because I liked how the color looked.

Do you have any horror stories about in store makeovers? Best and worst experiences? Let me know!

My Liebster Award Nomination!

My new friend over at http://beautyproductaday.blogspot.com nominated me for a Liebster Award! This is an award given to bloggers with smaller followings and is intended to recognize their efforts and network blogs of similar sizes.

The Rules:
1. Link back to the blogger who nominated you.(see above!).
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you by the blogger who nominated you.
3. Nominate 11 other bloggers with less than 200 followers.
4. Go to the blogs you nominated and notify them of their nomination.
5. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer.

Here are the questions I was given to answer!

  • What is your favorite mascara ever?

Shocker readers: its Clump Crusher by CoverGirl. haha. Don’t act like you’re not impressed. I get more volume and curl from CC than I have gotten from any other high end, mid range, or drugstore mascara I have ever tried. and I have tried a LOT.

  • What post on your blog is your favorite and why?

I like my posts about Napoleon Perdis. NP products make me feel more beautiful than anything I can possibly do.

  • If you could be any animal, what would you be?

Totally would be a dragon, and that has nothing to do with how bad-ass they are in Game of Thrones. I’d breathe fire so I would never be cold, eat whatever I want, and fill a cave with gold and jewels and roll around in it until I glittered like the stars.

  • If you had to spend $1,000 in one store, where would it be?

I know you want me to say something like Sephora. but I am going with IKEA. I would go in planning to pick up ONE THING and come out with TWENTY. and still stay in budget.

  • If you had to spend that $1,000 on one person besides yourself, who would you spend it on?

If I could just give the money to someone, I would give it to my dad. I owe him money anyways >.< but if I had to spend it in the store above, probably my sister. She is starting college in the fall and if she thinks she loves IKEA NOW? hoo boy.

  • What is your favorite way to promote your blog?

Anyway I can! I facebook, pin on pinterest, and post all over Reddit. I suppose I tweet too but its automatically generated from my FB and Blog and i dont check it or promote twitter.

  • Do you like board games or card games?

Yes. Both. I have to choose? VIDEO GAMES.

  • What is your best beauty tip you have to share?

its easier to add more than it is to take it off. True about so many things in life. But if you pile too much shadow on your brush, you will have fallout and big eyeshadow smears. if you put on too much blush, you may as well wash your face and start from scratch. and wash your makeup off!!! Don’t go to bed with makeup on. Save your linens and your skin.

  • What is your favorite website to shop on?

These questions are hard! For makeup, Sephora. In general, sale sights like Hautelook and Zulily. Amazon because of Universal Wish List.

  • If you could get anyone to guest post on your blog, who would you choose and why?

Temptalia, hands down. That yotch already has swatches of Naked 3! SO JELLY.

  • What is your favorite candy?

Chocolate of nearly every variety. Twix, Take 5, Crunchie, Flake, Reeses cups, gummy bears, sour patch kids…oh. i started past chocolates lol. I have a sweet tooth!!

Double Influenster: Rimmel Stay Matte and Rose Voxboxes

You may remember that I am a member of Influenster–a free, social media & marketing crossover platform which allows users to post reviews and fill out surveys, which qualifies them to occasionally receive free products for review. In the beginning of the summer I gave you reviews of some new Mary Kay products. This time around, I qualified for TWO different Voxboxes! Even though these items were complimentary, for testing purposes, I promise you my honest opinion!

1: Rimmel Stay Matte Voxbox

This was a one-item box. While Rimmel’s Stay Matte line is available, this item is new. It is a mousse-consistency foundation. The prequalifying quiz included several questions to help determine which color they would send you. Let’s see how it did:

Image

Here is the box. Shine has met its match? Love it! As you may remember I have combo skin and get a shiny tzone.

Image

So far so good! True beige sounds like me…my Boots foundation is Cool Beige. 🙂

Image

Here is a closeup. What I love about Influenster is that they send you full sized products so you can test them. I don’t know how companies think we will get a handle on a product when they give you a foil packet that only has enough product to cover your nose.

Image

Here is a little squeeze. The formula is light and fluffy, as you would expect from something described as “mousse”Image

I blended that smudge into the back of my hand. It seems to match pretty well but my face is lighter than my hands.

Image

Inside my wrists shows its a little darker. My face is darker than my inside wrists though…so at this point I was unsure how it would go on my face.

Image

As far as these claims go, I think the description is accurate. The formula is lightweight and smooth, and I did stay matte all day. I must disclose that I used a beauty blender and not my fingers though!

Image

Here it is, on! The color was ALMOST just right on my face. it was eversoslightly too dark, which considering it was an online survey is pretty good. With a little mineral veil over top it was hardly noticeable. In the summer this will be perfect. I don’t think it minimized my pores as much as it implied, but that is not my primary concern with foundation so that doesn’t count against it. For me at least. Overall I think this is a good product, on line with Boots matte foundation. Like the card says, this product is not available yet! I would keep an eye out in Spring 2014 probably if i HAD to hazard a guess.

2: Rose VoxBox

The second box was the Rose VoxBox, one of 2 available fall beauty boxes this year. The surveys had questions about all sorts of wierd things, so I was unsure what to expect!

Image

The boxes arrived on the same day!

Image

Way to go on packaging, Influenster…. I guess they figure they don’t need to since the items are free?

Image

They dare me to find a thorn? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Image

Here is an outline of everything I received. I was lucky enough to be one of the few who did receive the Vitabath lotion in addition to the other items!

Image

I made everything nice so you could see it all!

Image

I was very excited when I saw these. The package brangs that you can use it in any kind of shoe! well..that’s not exactly true. I tried it in a pair of flats, after trimming down to my 8.5 size. The inserts made the shoes tight across my foot and actually cut into them. NO DICE. Then I thought I would try them in a pair of wedge booties. Again, they were too thick and raised my foot higher than it should sit in a shoe! However, like Goldilocks the third time was the charm when I put them in my unlined rainboots. An extra layer of soft, warm support was instantaneous. I must add that it was SUPER easy to take them in and out, and the fluffiness is appreciated 🙂

Image

Rimmel Scandaleyes. You know how I feel about mascaras that aren’t Clump Crusher. More on this mascara below.

Image

Nail polish!!!!!! I have always been curious about these sets and have trouble recreating them on my own, so I was thrilled to see it! More further down on this as well:)

Image

Vitabath lotion in Beach Blossom. I don’t think the fragrance name is accurate. Nothing about it was beachy, or even particularly floral! However the lotion is moisturizing, the fragrance is light and fresh, and the bottle is big! This was a win and I was glad to have gotten it.

Image

Lindor Truffles! But seriously, Influenster? This cute little packet had ONE TRUFFLE. I need at least 10 to know if I like it 🙂 Seriously though, I could have used 1-2 more. But Lindt is a brand I associate with quality sweet treats and this did not disappoint me.

Image

These were good! I have tried the honey oat flavor before but blueberry hasnt been available. They went well with my morning tea.

Here is a look deeper into some of the products!Image

This is my first attempt with the Kiss Gradation nail set. While it isn’t exactly like the box, I think I did a decent job and the effect is cool. The glitter doesnt hurt 🙂

ImageImageImage

Here is a closeup of the mascara wand. Out of all the samples and mascara I have used, I haven’t had a wand like this before. I was surrpised at how it made my already long lashes look like falsies!Image

Check out those lashes! You can also see them in the picture I posted above of the foundation. But look at that–in some places my lashes are touching my eyebrows! My badly in need of waxing eyebrows. This doesnt supplant my CC (SHOCKER!) but it has wormed its way into my regular rotation!

Did my reviews entice you into any of these products? Are any of you Influensters? Tell me what you think!

The Return of Nothin’ but Napoleon!

My love for all things Napoleon Perdis is no secret. I plug it wherever I go, whenever possible, to whoever will listen. I have yet to be disappointed by a product. I may as well turn Nothin’ but Napoleon into a regular installment. If you haven’t checked the brand out, there is very often a NP rep at Ulta with samples.

Image

As you can see, there is an AWFUL lot of NP going on here. In the center is The One Concealer, going up and clockwise is Blushing mosaic, Bronzing Mosaic, cosmetic glitter (EF Cosmetics), 2 eyeshadow quads, NYX jumbo pencil in milk, NP eyeliner, devine lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, Bare Minerals mineral veil, and urban decay deslick setting spray. Sitting in the mirror of the bronzer is a sample pack of the NP Sheer Genius foundation.

Image

This eyebrow looked particularly good that day. the Nyx pencil is good on my lower waterline for making my eyes appear open and brighter.

Image

I don’t normally like pencil eye liner but the NP liner is smooth and allows me a good flick.

Image

Closeup. not only does this show how well the glitter distributes, but you can see how smooth the foundation makes my skin appear.

Image

Also of note is how well the concealer hides my enormous purple undereye bags!

Image

Better look at the lips. The lipstick is moisturizing and the gloss isnt super sticky.

I never look as good as I do when i go all-out with Napoleon Perdis. I don’t use it every day, just because I have SO MUCH other product to use and show my readers. If I was told I could only use one brand for the rest of my life–this would be it. I wish the selection at Ulta was larger–some stores have counters with NP in them, but nothing near me does >.< I am dying to get my hands on some of their palettes and other products!

we’re still okay with Halloween makeup, right?

We aren’t even a week into November, so I figure it is still timely to show you my super cute, super EASY halloween makeup from last week. I went out to a bar with some friends the Saturday before and I didn’t want to be wearing something awkward like last year (wings) or that I was constantly pulling up or adjusting (corset). This was made straight from things I already had in my wardrobe–no purchase necessary!

Image

Meet the adorable scarecrow!

Image

Stitching and undereye lashes all done with elf black cream eyeliner. eyeshadow and nose patch is milani from the rainbow mosaic. blush is Nyx cream blush in orange. Lips are revlon just bitten in Rendezvous.

Image

This was the first time I curled my hair since it has been this long–its a LOT of hair and you can tell i missed chunks.

Image

Paired with a plaid shirt/cami, jeans, and little tan booties. Comfortable, casual, cute.

In the last picture, you can also get a glimpse of just how long my hair is getting…wow. its CURLED and its out to the girls. which means it goes even farther when its straight.
